Riches – the least worthy gifts

People, despite their wealth, do not endure;
 they are like the beasts that perish.~Psalm 49:12

Riches are the least worthy gifts which God can give man. They are nothing compared to God’s word, to bodily gifts such as beauty and health, or to the gifts of the mind, such as understanding, skill, wisdom! Yet men toil for them day and night, and take no rest. Therefore, God commonly gives riches to foolish people, to whom He gives nothing else. – Martin Luther

Stop and think: what is that you want from life? More money? A promotion? Prestige? To pursue excellence in what God calls us to do as a vocation is fine, but if the secret goal of the heart is a larger home, a fatter stock portfolio, then we must count ourselves as the “foolish people” of whom Luther writes. We must submit all our “riches” to Christ and use His wisdom in the stewardship of what we’ve been given. http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=singresoguid-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=0060638761&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr
